   "The Gleaners" by Jean-François Millet
Realism in art.
1. What qualities of realism are embodied in the above image?
2. Think about the poem "Richard Cory" that we read earlier in the week. Where can social parallels be found between the poem and the painting?
3. This was a radical image for the time period; yet it was well received. Why do you think the viewing public (upper middle class) found this picture palpable?
Many folks have not completed some or all of this week's work. I will expect you after school on Tuesday to complete the missing assignments, if the work is not turned in on Monday.

In class: vocabulary test on words from last Monday's handout on the introductory material on Realism,
followed by a short writing based upon the information in your graphic organizer from the yesterday's film "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge."
In a well-written paragraph, please respond to the following: How does Bierce employ the literary technique of imagery to render reality closely and in comprehensive detail.   Please respond on the back of your graphic organizer.

If you were absent yesterday, you will need to make arrangements to watch the film, in order to complete the assignment. The link is on Thursday's blog. You may watch it at home or get a pass to the library to listen / watch. You will need ear buds. Don't forget to fill in the graphic organizer, then complete the above assignment. The film is approximately 30 minutes long.
