Periods 6 and 7: quick write. Period 9, please turn this
in, as this was a homework assignment.
Using only lines 1-8, describe the character of the
Duchess, weaving in specific text from the poem.
(class handout; or, if absent, just answer the above, taking only 10 minutes.
In class: we will continue working on "My Last
Duchess". This is a close reading assignment, the
objective being to look very carefully at the context and
nuances of individual words. (That's diction or word
choice.) There are 24 responses. You may work with one
other person. This is due at the end of class tomorrow.
The expectation is that you follow the directions exactly.
For example, question #9 asks you to read the poem
independently and question 10.b, asks you to write a
succinct summary. Yours will not look like your
partner's.
The graphic organizer for "My Last Duchess" is at the
close of class on Friday. This counts as a writing grade
and will be used as a resource for next week's writing.
If you think need extra time, please work on this for
homework this evening.
